Tirukkadavur near Kumbakonam Deities: Amritaghateswarar, Abhirami (Shiva, Parvati) This ancient and vast temple dedicated to Abirami and Amritagateswarar is one of the eight Veeratta Stalams of Shiva, and has been sung by the Saivite Saints. This temple is associated with the legend of Shiva freeing his devotee Markandeya from the clutches of time and granting him immortality. Celebrating one's sixtieth or eightieth birthday at this shrine is considered to be something special. The Abirami shrine here, is of significance.
