Airavateeswarar Temple at Darasuram near Kumbakonam

Deities: Airavateeswarar (Shiva)

This temple is a feast to the eye. Built in the twelth century AD , this temple is shaped in the form of a huge charriot, and the entire monument is replete with intricate sculptural work. Some of the stone panels in front of the temple, emit sonorous sounds when struck. This temple is dedicated to Shiva is virtually described as a sculptors dream in stone.
