This ancient shrine is mentioned in the epic Silappadikaram. It has also been sung by the Saivite Saints. Built on a hillock, this is accessed by a flight of steps.The six foot high image of Ardhanariswarar - Shiva-Sakthi is impressive. This temple is also known for its shrine of Kartikeya. The later Cholas, Vijayanagar kings, and the Naiks have made contributions to this temple.
