				a portrait of Chhatrapati Shivaji displayed at the well known 
				Kalikambal temple 
				in the George Town area of Chennai.
              
				
               
				Also seen below, is a plaque narrating this  historic 
				incident. Emperor Shivaji's conquest of South India brought him 
				as far as Gingee (Senji) and Vellore.
              
				
				
				 
				The 
				Kalikambal temple in 
				North Madras is one of the historic landmarks of the 
				city of Chennai. It is visited by thousands. Originally located 
				near the seashore, it was relocated to its current location in 
				Thambu Chetty Street during the British rule in 1640. Emperor 
				Shivaji is said to have stayed in the nearby Armenian Street 
				during his visit to Chennai.
