This ancient temple dedicated to Shiva is one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingams of India. The ancient temple was destroyed in the 13th century and the existing structure is comparatively recent. Only an ancient gateway from the past remains. Ujjain is the site of the Kumbh Mela once every 12 years.
