Kalikambal Temple at Chennai- Bhramotsavam (1)
Temples of Tamilnadu >> Kalikambal Temple Home Page

The annual Bhramotsavam is celebrated in the month of Vaikasi at the Kalikambal temple in George Town, Chennai. This 11 day festival begins with a procession of Ganesha, and is followed by the flag hoisting (dwajaarohanam) ceremony.

The processional images of Kalikambal, and other deities are taken out in procession twice a day through the crowded business district   constituting what used to be the Maada veedhi.

The processions in the morning are simple save for the 3rd and the 7th day, when the Bhoota Vaahanam and the traditional chariot are used to take the decorated image of Kalikambal in procession.

The processions during the night are grander in nature and use several of the vaahanams owned by the temple.

The Bhramotsavam  concludes on the full moon day in the tamil month of Vaikasi, coinciding with Vaikasi Visaakam. Following the lowering of the flag on the full moon night, Shanmukhar is also taken in procession along with Kalikambal.
