This Shivastalam is located in the vicinity of Irumbai Maakalam, 8
km away from Pondicherry. This is the 31st of the 32 Tevara
Stalams in the Tondai region of South India.Vamadeva muni is said to have worshipped Shiva
here. Arasilinathar is also known as Aswatheswarar.The Sivalingam
is relatively small in size. The annual festival is celebrated in
the month of Vaikasi. Legend has it that observing Pradosha vratham
offered bounties to an ancient monarch. There are inscriptions from
the period of the imperial Cholas here. |
